FYI

Nike One Gold is a four piece ball too. Great for Iron Play--both short and long Irons..

I LIKE TO PLAY THE PINNACLE GOLF BALL IN YELLOW COLOR. WHY? BECAUSE YELLOW IS EASY FOR ME TO FOLLOW THROUGH THE AIR AND MUCH EASIER TO FIND OFF THE FAIRWAY OR IN LEAVES THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. DURING THE SUMMER I LIKE THE TITLEIST PRO V1 BECAUSE I CAN COUNT ON IT TO BITE ON THE GREEN WHETHER THE GREEN IS FIRM OR NOT. ALSO I LIKE THE WAY IT COMES OFF THE PUTTER BLADE. SOFT AND HAS GOOD FEEL. I SEE SOME PLAYERS HAVE OR CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THE NEW HOGAN TOUR DEEP. I PLAYED WITH SOME HOGAN APEX BALLS AND MY IRONS TEND TO SCUFF AND OR PEEL THE COVER VERY EASILY. PERSONNALY I DON'T LIKE THEM FOR THAT REASON. MAYBE THE NEW TOUR DEEP WILL BE DIFFERENT? I'LL NOT BE SPENDING BIG BUCKS TO FIND OUT THOUGH. I'LL WAIT TILL I FIND ONE!

I have tried all the other balls.

I like the Nike One and the Bridgestone B-330, I liked the Callaway 56 and the Precept Laddie Tour, I also liked the Srixon UR-X but, as good as these balls are, I will never replace my ProV1 or ProV1x. These balls are the best performing ball on the market, that is why they are #1. They will stay in my bag until I stop playing this game. The way they play in the wind and the rain is unmatched. Therefore I stick with a ball that works, the rest are just rocks.

I would hit a L-wedge from 80 yrds and still have roll of about 5 ft. (forward). The ProV1's stopped dead in it's tracks or had a "little" backspin (6"). Also around the green (5 - 10ft off) the ball felt a little too hard or too hot(?) off the face and just rolled.

Maybe this is just in my head... (no comments! Roll Eyes Get enough from the wife).

Anyways, my 1 cent opinion,

Hey Guy, You are absolutely right. I played the B330, the Srixon Z-UR and the Nike Platimun and Gold. Nothing, I mean no Ball I ever played(and that's a lot of Balls) STOP AND DROP like the PRO V1. It never bounce forward. It always spend sideway(left to right--I fade my Irons and sometimes it spins backwards. I'm a 16 handicapper but I play better than that. The PRO V1 one makes me feel like a scratch player--but I regain my senses once I hit them all away...

I was reading a post earlier and a guy mentioned--and I can attest too--that if you tee up a PRO V1 or another four dollar ball and if you think or worry about mis hitting it in the Woods or Water--YOU WILL.. Sounds silly but it's TRUE.

And yet,

Tiger - Nike One Platinum
Vijya - Titleist Pro V1x
Phil - Callaway HX Tour 56
Furyk - Callaway HX Tour 56
Toms - Titleist New Pro V1
Annika - Callaway HX Tour

I understand endorsements and all, but most players have clauses to allow them to choose other equipment, if needed.

Well, if you believe these guys, the arguements are over. NDMX Golf has been working with the USGA for about a year to get these balls approved.

The NDMX balls are expensive, but they claim that they are so straight that they pay for themselves in the number of balls that you won't loose. I guess that could be true, if you don't have alignment problems, like I do...

I might have to get me a dozen of these NDMX Balls. I know NANOTUBES fibre wrapping went into Making my ALDILA NV 75 R Shaft for my Callaway 454 11 degree Driver--and now I can have a NANOBall from NanoDynamics. Still keeping the PRO V1s close by.

I think I've tried just about every Ball their is and so far cannot justify the extra money for Pro v1 and Pro V1X. I continue to play the DT SoLo. Probably because I don't have a High enough Swing Speed. 240 to 250 with the Driver.

How fast does a swing have to be to Play Golf with a PRO V1 Golf Ball?

I don't think it makes much difference. I swing my driver at 90--105 range on a good day.

On a bad day with a bad swing a PRO V1 Ball can turn those two bads into a good shot provided you make solid contact.

On a bad day with a bad swing all's I do is lose those $3.25 Golf Balls. Don't take me wrong, if someone else is buying I'll take the Pro V1's. But if I'm buying,(Which I usally am) I buy the DT SoLo's.

I feel you on the price thing. When it come to Golf though, I try not to count pennies. I got Callaway Drivers, Irons and Hybrids so it seems only right that I buy the Best Golf Ball Too(PRO V1)...

Now I told my wife for Christmas to buy me the Callaway HX 56 Balls because they are the next best thing.

I bought New Callaway Irons this last Spring and loved them.
Are you going to be able to Play during the Holiday's?

If so, respond back on the New HX 56 Golf Balls.

Hit em well! and Merry Christmas!

A friend gave me a sleeve of the Callaway HX Tour Balls with those six big dimples for stability I guess. The HX Tour Balls feel just like the PRO V1 off the Irons but not as heavy off the Driver as the PRO V1. I love the way I can shape shoots with the PRO V1 and the HX Tour ball really went right when playing a fade and really left when drawing a shot. Overall the HX Tour are Great Balls and I can't wait to play'em. I live in Virginia so I wont be playing anytime soon--around here I least.

I'm no pro, but I'm highly dubious of the claim that a Pro V1(x) will turn a bad shot into a good one. They shank, hook and slice just as well as the cheapo's.

I hit more PRO V1 and 1x, Srixon, Callaways Nike-all the four dollar balls in the Woods, Water, shanked OB and lost five feet away. When all of my four dollar ball are gone--I go buy more--it's that simple. I'm a 14 Handicap--on a good day and when I play bad it's still fun and the PRO V1s make it exciting.

I have played PROV1 and PVOV1x's as well as Nxt's, Bridgestones, Nike, and the Callaway HX TOUR and HX TOUR 56's. For me, (swing speed 120-125) I find the PRO V1 AND PRO V1x'S are the best responding balls. I measured distance off the tee, as well as 7 and 4 iron distances. The Pro V1 was 7 yards longer than the closest ball (except bandit (which is illegal)), the Callaway HX Tour 56.
I agree that it is a personal preference and your swing speed that will determine the best ball for you.

If you Like Pro V1's and or the Calaway Tour, you should hurry to Golfsmith.com and try the Top Flite Strata TL- Tour, they came out about a year ago for 29.99 and did not do very well, I tired them and loved the way they played, The TL-Tour played as well as the PRO V1 to me. Now Golfsmith has them on close out for 11.99 a DOZ, As soon as I saw this I ordered 14 doz, thats a great savings over new PRO V1's.

I 've found that I hit 2 layer balls better than these fancy ProVs Everyone should get tested on a swing monitor to see their true trajectory & distance

Welcome to the board Doc.

You're right, most folks can hit 2 piece balls further than high-end 3 piece balls. The advantage that (most) 3 piece balls has is improved spin around the green.

I've found that I like the softer 3 piece balls like the e6, HX-Hot, Strata TL-Distance, etc. I've tried the NXT Tour, was not the ball for me.

You might want to give one of these balls a try, you might be surprise at the distance and the control.

You might want to try

I play one of five balls, depending on several things, such as course, performance characteristics I want, and what I grab off of my wooden caddy in the morning, as have minimum 2 dozen of each brand on the shelves (I'm not married, so I don't answer to a wife abuot my golf spendings, I'm sure you married folk have that come up in discussion). Those five balls are the following:

Nike One Platinum (distance is great, feel good off the putter, don't spin as much as some balls, don't scuff easily)

Callaway HX Tour (good distance, decent spin, feel great off the putter)

Callaway HX Tour 56 (Same as HX tour but more spin, as they're a tad softer)

Titleist ProV1 (distance, good spin, but not as much as 56's, great off the putter, great all around, but the most pricey)

Hogan Tour Deep (good all around ball, cheapest of the bunch I listed, only qualm is the 6 deeper dimples make it spin more, but that also means that it spins more off the tee, so fade and draws need to be played to move a tad more than the others where as a 3 yard draw or fade turns into a 5 yard draw or fade, not a big problem, but it does have to be allotted for)

Check the Darrell Survey after every PGA, Senior, or Nationwide event and you will see that Titleist is the most often used ball by a wide margin. Subtract all those who are sponsored by Nike, Callaway, TaylorMade, Srixon, et al, from the totals and it is obvious that Titleist is by far the ball of choice among professionals. There must be a reason.

I've played Pro V's for years, but switched to the Taylormade Black last season. It doesn't spin as much as the Pro V, but is by far the best wind ball I've ever played. With the new grooves on wedges, the PV1 would literally back up to much. It's winter here the Northeast, so no golf for us until end of March...bummer!

Keep it long and straight!

I love the pro v1x and wont play any other ball.Ive tried them all and no other ball comes close from tee to green. I  shot a 76 with this ball so  I feel confident standing over it.Now I consistantly shoot under 90 since I  play the pro v1x.Everyone is different but for me its the best ball.

Yes, I have tried them but I do not like them nearly as well as the old Z URC.

For my money though, the Bridgestones cannot be beat.
